10 of the best wines at Aldi in 2026

From a sparkling Vinho Verde to a rich Italian red, these are 10 of the best Aldi wines in 2026

Words by Cat Lomax

Those who appreciate a bargain will be delighted to read that some of the best Aldi wines are now amongst the most popular bottles on the high street: the supermarket’s own-brand Champagne, Veuve Monsigny, for example. Aldi has become an established brand in the UK and a key ingredient in its success is a selection of competitively priced wine and spirits that help to bring shoppers through the doors.

Aldi is now one of the UK’s ‘big four’ supermarkets, having overtaken Morrisons a couple of years ago courtesy of a combination of stellar sales growth and a rush of new store openings. It’s also Britain’s third largest retailer of still wine by volume and its wine range provides a dynamic, ever-changing selection of bottles at frequently eye-popping prices.

What most impresses about Aldi’s current lineup is the breadth and variety of new additions; the buyers’ energy and enthusiasm for wine in all its diversity shines through. Among the new wines are styles rarely seen on the shelves of big retailers; a Washington State Merlot, a Carignan-based blend from the Vallée du Paradis and a sparkling Vinho Verde, to name but three. Not all of Aldi’s quirky new finds quite hit the quality mark, so a degree of caution is called for when considering some of the more off-the-wall options now available. For adventurous wine drinkers who don’t mind the occasional miss, however, Aldi’s range will provide a wealth of new discoveries to explore over the summer months.

The mid-priced Specially Selected wines providing particularly rich pickings for enjoyable everyday drinking

The ‘Specially Selected’ range is Aldi’s take on own-label and does a reasonably consistent job of delivering well-made, typical examples of grape varieties and styles from around the world at prices between £6.99 and £9.99. The Aglianico del Vulture and Organic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc are particularly worth seeking out and top our list of recommendations.

In response to customer demand for more premium wine styles, the Aldi buying team have introduced a number of big-hitting appellations (such as Chablis Premier Cru, Sancerre, Barolo and Rioja Gran Reserva) under the Specially Selected label this year, at prices between £11.39 and £18.99. While undeniably keenly priced, these wines are less successful than the rest of the Specially Selected range, as the ultra-low prices don’t leave enough room to capture the full expression and depth of these great wine styles. As such, they can only offer an introductory glimpse of the flavours these regions are so justly renowned for.

Overall, there are some good quality wines offering exceptional value on the shelves at Aldi, with the mid-priced Specially Selected wines providing particularly rich pickings for enjoyable everyday drinking. Unfortunately, Aldi no longer offers online shopping, so you’ll need to visit a store to get your hands on its wines. Read on for ten of the best Aldi wines currently available.

What are the IWSC Drinks Supermarket of the Year Awards?

The IWSC Drinks Supermarket of the Year Awards were introduced to provide consumers with an in-depth evaluation of supermarkets’ alcoholic beverage offerings, inclusive of non-alcoholic alternatives. A panel of judges spend months evaluating the biggest UK retailers. Attending supermarket tastings forms part of this process, offering judges the chance to taste many of the wines available in-store and see how buyers are responding to trends and consumer demand.
