Ten of the best wines at Morrisons in 2025

From a spectacular Georgian red to a great value sherry, here are ten of the best wines at Morrisons in 2025

Words by Luke Flunder

The quality of Morrisons’ current wine range is generally very good, with reds representing many of the best Morrisons wines. From the Rhône to Alentejo and the Coastal Region of South Africa, Morrisons’ red wines consistently deliver bold flavour, typicity and smart winemaking.

Although technically no longer one of ‘the big four’ supermarkets in the UK (it was recently overtaken by Aldi in terms of market share), Morrisons has a wine offering similar to that of its traditional, bigger rivals, rather than the ‘discounters’. New for 2025 and a significant development in the Morrisons wine range is the ‘Block Series’, a collection of 12 wines from distinctive regions across the globe. This limited-edition range represents a clear step up for Morrisons’ own-label wine offering, with a focus on typicity, provenance and style. It includes standout bottles from Margaret River, Paarl, Marlborough, Rioja and beyond — many of which wouldn’t look out of place on the shelves in a specialist wine shop. As you’ll see below, several of them now represent some of the best wines at Morrisons: the Block Series Paarl Chenin Blanc was my top-scoring wine in the current range; a pitch-perfect example of why South African Chenin Blanc continues to shine. Likewise, the Block Series Georgian Saperavi is a bold, characterful take on this lesser-known variety, showing real finesse and structure.

While the Block Series is worthy of the spotlight, the wider own-label range shows just as much progression and intent. Several core wines stand out not just for their value but for their sense of place and drinkability. Morrisons The Best Côtes du Rhône Villages Sablet is a great buy — a savoury, structured red with classic Rhône character at an accessible price point. The Portuguese wines impress too, particularly the Ramos Reserva, which has richness, balance and length.

Although the reds impress most, a white blend from the Rhône and a Grüner Veltliner are both excellent, showing texture, clarity and regional authenticity. What ties this top tier together is a clear focus on clarity, character and approachability. Whether through the more premium Block Series or refreshed classics in the core range, Morrisons is showing real momentum — not just with value but with wines that feel considered and representative of where they come from.

As the selection rolls out over the coming months (some are due on shelves in the next few weeks, hence the lack of bottle shots in the list below), there’s a lot for everyday drinkers and curious explorers alike to enjoy. Read on for ten of the best Morrisons wines.

What are the IWSC Drinks Supermarket of the Year Awards?

The IWSC Drinks Supermarket of the Year Awards were introduced to provide consumers with an in-depth evaluation of supermarkets’ alcoholic beverage offerings, inclusive of non-alcoholic alternatives. A panel of judges spend months evaluating the biggest UK retailers. Attending supermarket tastings forms part of this process, offering judges the chance to taste many of the wines available in-store and see how buyers are responding to trends and consumer demand.
