Lirac sits on the right bank of the Rhône in southern France with Châteauneuf-du-Pape on the other side of the river. While its illustrious neighbour is one of the biggest names in the wine world, Lirac is considerably less famous, despite a long and illustrious history of winemaking, but now its reputation is starting to grow. In episode 123 of The Drinking Hour, David Kermode presents a special episode that shines a light on the region, talking to Alistair Cooper MW about why Lirac is attracting new drinkers before welcoming winemakers Pierre Fabre of Château Mont Redon and Gérald Lafont of Domaine d’Arbousset to talk about the grape varieties, terroir and styles that define wines from the appellation.
