Georgia is widely recognised as the ‘cradle of wine’, with evidence of production dating back to 6,000BCE. The country is reported to have more than 500 indigenous grape varieties and winemaking in qvevri, the large earthenware vessels that are buried in the ground, has been formally recognised by UNESCO.
