Most drinkers won’t be strangers to Rioja – after all, it’s one of the world’s most celebrated wine regions. The area is more than twice the size of Burgundy, boasting 65,000 hectares of vines, 567 wineries, and the largest number of barrels anywhere in the world. Its sheer size means there’s plenty to discover about the region, its wines and even its food culture.
Of course, the value-factor means its wines have mass appeal too, with some of the best examples from the region available at great prices compared to other well-known vinous areas of the world.
In this week’s episode of The Drinking Hour podcast, host David Kermode is joined by wine expert Jane Parkinson – a regular on BBC One’s Saturday Kitchen and a former IWSC Wine Communicator of the Year – to celebrate and learn more about Rioja and its wine.
