In episode 266 of The Drinking Hour podcast, David Kermode chats to Helen McGinn aka Knackered Mother, regular TV wine expert and bestselling author, about her new book The Supermarket Wine Guide.

The conversation starts with McGinn’s former career as a supermarket wine buyer at Tesco and the launch of her first book The Knackered Mother’s Wine Guide. The pair discuss her efforts to make wine more accessible via her wine club and then move on to her new book and how McGinn dealt with the issue of wine availability and the price ranges to include. Kermode asks where the ‘sweet spot’ is for the price of good supermarket wine in 2026, before McGinn talks about what it’s like working on the BBC’s Saturday Kitchen. The episode finishes with McGinn’s choice for her desert island wine.
