Last year, the IWSC held a global judging in South Africa. Over three days in Stellenbosch, the judging team tasted more than 500 South African wines.

In episode 153 of The Drinking Hour, David Kermode chats to two of the judges present for the in-situ event, including the first Brazilian Master of Wine Dirceu Vianna Junior and the winner of the IWSC’s 2022 Emerging Talent in Wine Communication, Sophia Longhi. The trio discuss some of the award-winning wines they judged, including a gold-award-winning Semillon, the diversity of South African wine styles and the often misunderstood Pinotage.
