Best wines at Sainsbury's

Sainsbury’s is one of the ‘big four’ supermarkets in the UK, so its branches are inevitably where many of us buy our wine. Our guide to the best wines at Sainsbury’s should help you find something special in amongst the dozens of bottles there are to choose from in most Sainsbury’s stores. When considering what to keep an eye out for, bear in mind that a standout of Sainsbury’s current wine offering is the Taste the Difference Discovery Collection. The range, which promotes more unfamiliar wine styles, regions and grape varieties, offers excellent value for money.

The Discovery Collection is now in its sixth iteration and the encouragement it gives consumers to explore wine diversity is to be applauded. The range is high quality, offering imagination, innovation and some of the best wines at Sainsbury’s, including the Taste the Difference Discovery Collection Bandol Rosé 2022 and the Taste the Difference Discovery Collection Teloldego 2022 listed below.

A recent press tasting also made clear why the Sainsbury’s wine buying team is so enthused by some of the new products on show, some of which were both unusual and reasonably priced. As well as the new, the latest/current vintages of existing wines in the range – from more classic regions – impressed. In essence, the current wine offering is a well-balanced blend of the classic versus the pioneering.

Overall, there are some great wines for Sainsbury’s customers to look out for during the summer and a couple of wines I’ll be making a beeline for before when I see them on shelves. The bottles below represent 10 of the best wines at Sainsbury’s in 2024.

What are the IWSC Drinks Supermarket of the Year Awards?

The IWSC Drinks Supermarket of the Year Awards were introduced to provide consumers with an in-depth evaluation of supermarkets’ alcoholic beverage offerings, inclusive of non-alcoholic alternatives. A panel of judges spend months evaluating the biggest UK retailers. Attending supermarket tastings forms part of this process, offering judges the chance to taste many of the wines available in-store and see how buyers are responding to trends and consumer demand.
