Red wine
Beaulieu Vineyard, Georges de Latour Private Reserve 2016
RRP £50
A wine whose Rutherford credentials simply leap out of the glass. It’s alive: luscious dark spiced fruit, mint, eucalyptus, black cherry, generous and creamy. The palate is all texture, dark chocolate, dry fine-grained tannins: Rutherford dust. The minerality is seductive too, a mouthwatering note of wet stone which in time (30 years?) will develop to a herbaceous, river-mud perfume. This is a magnificent wine that I would unhesitatingly buy by the case to open a bottle once a year.
