Spanish photographer Juan Miguel Ortuño Martinez is the overall winner of the Louis Jadot Wine Photographer of the Year 2026 for his striking and slightly eerie shot (see full image below) from inside an underground wine tank during cleaning. The man illuminating the red-stained interior walls with the blue light emitted by his headtorch is Pedro, who descends the ladder to clear wine from the tank with pressurised water. A small bucket containing a sponge is then lowered down to him for the removal of any remnants stuck in corners of the tank.
This year’s winners were announced by chef Gennaro Contaldo in an awards ceremony that saw stars of the food and arts world gather at the Mall Galleries, London, on 2 June. Entries were judged under three categories related to the world of wine: People, Produce and Places.
Martinez took first place in the People category and was announced as the overall winner, while British photographer Luke Carver claimed first prize in the Produce category with In the Eye of the Kvevri, an image captured during a harvest in Georgia last year. The third of the three categories, Places, was won by Chris Elfes for his drone photograph of a vineyard in Australia’s Hunter region.
As in previous years, the judging panel comprised a diverse group of professionals, including fellow photographers, as well as magazine editors, creative directors, restaurateurs and chefs.
An exhibition of all 203 finalist images will premiere at the Mall Galleries, London. The free-to-enter exhibition runs from 3-7 June. A selection of the images hand-picked by Fortnum & Mason will be displayed at their iconic store on Piccadilly from Tuesday 9 June.
