In episode 210 of The Drinking Hour podcast, host David Kermode welcomes Libby Brodie, wine writer and IWSC judge, to chat about wines from the Lisbon region.

Following a recent trip along Lisbon’s wine route, Brodie reflects on its spectacular landscape and how it influences the region’s wines. Stretched along the Atlantic coast, this picturesque part of the world benefits from a cooling breeze off the ocean; Kermode and Brodie discuss how the resulting salinity and freshness help shape the character of Lisbon’s wines.

Throughout the episode, Brodie highlights the importance of travel as a way of exploring and understanding a wine region, and how wine relates to the customs and cuisine of a place. From Arinto to Bastardo, she touches on the native grape varieties of Lisbon and what they offer to wine lovers. The duo also discusses the Lisboa winemakers who are embracing their heritage through an appreciation for indigenous grapes, one which has helped to create an exciting moment for Portuguese wine.
