As series 17 of the Drinking Hour podcast draws to a close, host David Kermode takes a look back on a few of his highlights from interviews with some of the most renowned names in wine.
Kermode starts by reflecting on his chat with Marc Kent, Boekenhoutskloof’s managing partner, technical director and creator of much-celebrated red wine The Chocolate Block. Kent shares the story behind the name of the wine and explains why there isn’t a set recipe for The Chocolate Block.
Staying in South Africa, another of Kermode’s interviews was with Mike Dawson, winemaker at Journey’s End. The pair discuss why Dawson’s scientific pedigree has impacted his role and explains the impact of the Cape Doctor wind on the vineyards.
Kermode then takes a look back at his talk with a pioneer of Champagne, Alice Paillard of Maison Bruno Paillard. She tells Kermode how her father Bruno Paillard started the house, as well as explaining the art of blending in Champagne.
Other topics include an exploration of Sicily’s Cerasuolo di Vittoria with Stefano Girelli, of Santa Tresa and Cortese, and Peter Sisseck, the man behind Pingus, shares his vision for the evolution of the Ribera del Duero region.
