As Series Five of The Drinking Hour with David Kermode draws to a close, our host looks back on some of the most memorable moments. Among the conversations revisited is a moving tribute to the great critic, winemaker, educator and writer Steven Spurrier, where Kermode is joined by Club Oenologique consultant editor Adam Lechmere to celebrate the much-loved gentleman of wine.
The series also took listeners around the world – from a conversation with Yalumba’s Louisa Rose on all things Viognier in Australia to an episode with Madeleine Stenwreth MW on altitude wines in Argentina. Further up the Americas, Kermode revisits conversations with Kelby Russell at Red Newt in New York’s Finger Lakes about the trend-setting, up-and-coming wine region.
Back in the UK, Kermode revisits an episode that featured wine writer and critic Susy Atkins, who reveals her ‘lightning bulb moment’ in wine – which happened for her in the 1980s over a glass of Australian Chardonnay.
