Episode 167 of The Drinking Hour is the first of two special editions dedicated to the wines of Chablis. Host David Kermode is joined by Rosemary George MW, an author who once famously declared that ‘Chablis is Chardonnay but not every Chardonnay is a Chablis’.

Their conversation includes an exploration of the region, looking back on its history and to its future to see what direction the wines are heading in. George offers her unique insight into the wines of Chablis and explains the British love affair with the style.

Kermode also sits down with Louis Moreau, the sixth generation of his family to produce wine in the region, and Estelle Roy, winemaker of La Chablisienne, one of the biggest co-operatives in the area and one that produces around 25% of the region’s wine. Both of these key producers explain the hierarchy of quality in Chablis and the effect climate change is having on the region.
