M&S is expanding its Clocktower sub-brand to bring us a Chardonnay, a variety that really shines in New Zealand but is still overshadowed by the soaraway success of Sauvignon Blanc. What’s more, this comes from the same region as its sister Savvy, Marlborough, produced by the same winemaker, Matt Large, at Wither Hills. The nose offers bright orchard fruits and grapefruit with a hint of nutmeg, while on the palate there’s creamy lemon posset, a hint of oatmeal from the lees and refreshing, wet-pebble minerality. Pair this with a creamy chicken, leek and chestnut pie.
