This no-nonsense, oaked French Chardonnay does exactly what it says on the tin – and for a good price. There’s no vanilla-scented sawdust or sickly sweetness here, just a decent Chardonnay on the savoury side, bolstered and rounded out by some ageing in small oak barrels. Not overblown or unbalanced, it’s not quite Burgundy but, for under £10, we can live with that. Serve chilled with all things chicken or a nut roast.
