Methymnaeos make a white, red and orange wine from the low acid red local variety Chidiriotiko on volcanic soil, close by one of the world’s largest Petrified Forests. The rich sulphur and copper in the lava probably helps give these wines their unique character, defined by a long, savoury pepper finish. My favourite was this sublime, medium weight red, supple and fruity with medium acidity.
