The sister to Alavesa’s Pagos de Vina Real, Real de Asua is named after the brothers who founded the winery and is made up of fruit from the Villalba vineyards close to Haro in Rioja Alta. Both wines are 100% Tempranillo and both aged for 18 months in new French oak. The Asūa is deeply saturated and very imposing, regal and fiercely tannic; cloves, balsam, dark chocolate and bags of potential. I can imagine gastronomic joy with meat or game several years down the line.
