Five kilometres south of Yallingup beach, in the northern part of the Margaret River wine region, sits Windance Estate, a family-owned and operated vineyard established by Drew and Rosemary Brent-White in 1998. The area is highly regarded for having some of the best fruit in the region. Today, the estate is managed by their daughter Billie and her husband Tyke Wheatley, who carry forward the family’s values whilst bringing fresh energy and a strong commitment to sustainability and innovation.
The vineyard is Demeter-certified biodynamic, reflecting a holistic philosophy that views the farm as a living organism. Every step, from soil preparation to harvest, is guided by natural rhythms and ecological balance, resulting in vibrant, expressive wines that reflect their unique terroir. Windance is built on a proud multi-generational legacy, now in its third generation of farming and second generation of winemaking.
Since graduating in 2008, Tyke has worked at Domaine Buisson in Burgundy and been an assistant winemaker for several estates in Margaret River, working closely with well-respected identities in the wine industry. Since joining the Windance team in 2012, he has converted the estate vineyard to certified biodynamic. For him, the most important contributing factor to winemaking is growing and sourcing quality fruit. Excellent fruit provides the building blocks for excellent wine. Drew and Rosie have poured their heart and soul into the vineyard, and it really shows in the fruit quality.
What Billie enjoys most is the freedom to experiment and challenge herself, the deep connection to the land, the seasons and the people who appreciate their wines. Each vintage tells the unique story of the year, and it’s incredibly satisfying to capture that essence in a bottle. She loves being hands-on in both the vineyard and the winery, watching the fruit develop, guiding it through to wine and seeing how small decisions can have a significant impact. It’s a creative process, but one that requires constant vigilance, as working with nature can be unpredictable.
Windance wines are unique because they combine rare Demeter-certified biodynamic farming, a deep family legacy and the exceptional terroir of Margaret River’s Yallingup sub-region. With a hands-on, small-batch approach and a genuine commitment to sustainability, Windance offers wines that are not only expressive and of exceptional quality but also deeply connected to the land they come from.
