Compass Box

United Kingdom

Compass Box was founded in 2000 with a simple mission: to make the world of Scotch a more interesting place. The inaugural release, Hedonism, the first ever blended grain Scotch, challenged convention and changed perceptions of what whisky could be. From the blending room in Richmond, London, whiskymakers led by Angela D’Orazio continue to question assumptions, explore flavour without compromise and celebrate the art of blending as creative expression. Over 25 years, Compass Box has evolved from a small challenger into a creative house recognised for its flavour-first whiskies, design-led storytelling and collaborations that connect Scotch with art, food and culture.

Everything the team does is guided by a single idea: when you dare to reimagine tradition, Scotch becomes endlessly interesting again. What they love most about making whisky is the creative freedom it allows, the ability to take centuries of heritage and reimagine it for the future. At Compass Box, they believe Scotch should be a canvas for flavour, not a set of rules to follow. They find joy in questioning conventions that no longer serve the drinker, and in discovering new ways to bring deliciousness, curiosity and connection to people’s lives. Every blend is an experiment in emotion: how flavour, design and storytelling can come together to create something more than just the liquid in the glass.

What makes Compass Box unique is the belief that Scotch should be as open and imaginative as the people who drink it. In 2016, they launched the Campaign for Transparency, challenging the industry to give consumers full insight into what’s in their glass. They’ve led that conversation ever since, sharing recipes and components openly, because they believe knowledge deepens appreciation. They’re proud to be the most awarded independent Scotch whisky brand in the world, but their true distinction lies in curiosity and honesty. The whiskymakers take inspiration from everywhere: the scent of old bookshops, the flavours of extinct blends, even a 17th-century maverick chef from the Palace of Versailles.

The most rewarding part is knowing they can honour Scotch’s past whilst expanding its possibilities for the next generation of whisky lovers. By blending tradition with creativity and openness, Compass Box continues to redefine what Scotch can be: transparent, flavour-first and endlessly interesting.
