In 1966, a group of Grand Cru and Premier Cru growers across Champagne came together with a singular vision: to pool their knowledge, their terroirs and their resources in pursuit of excellence. What emerged was Union Champagne, a cooperative of cooperatives that today brings together more than 2,000 labourers, winegrowers, winemakers and oenologists from 15 distinct cellars. Champagne De Saint-Gall is the flagship expression of this collective endeavour.
The wines begin their journey across over 1,400 hectares of Premier and Grand Cru vineyards, predominantly spread across the chalky slopes of the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims. Here, limestone soils push vine roots deep, drawing up mineral-rich water that will later translate into the precise, elegant character for which the house has become known. The cooperative has built its reputation as master craftsmen of Chardonnay, the grape that thrives in these terroirs, whilst maintaining deep expertise in Pinot Noir.
To preserve the singularities of each plot and the knowledge held by individual growers, each cooperative vinifies its own grapes separately. Only later are these wines brought to Avize, where the Cellar Master assembles them into cuvées that bear the recognisable profile and style of Champagne De Saint-Gall. The facilities themselves, inaugurated in 2013, marry aesthetic design with cutting-edge technology, a physical manifestation of the house’s philosophy: tradition and modernity working in concert.
The style is pure and elegant, with terroir identity at its core. Some cuvées, such as those in the Influences series, are finished with minimal dosage, between 0 and 6g/L, allowing the Chardonnay and its origins to speak without interference. Even the Selection Brut, positioned as an entry point, draws from high-quality sites and rests on lees for 36 months before release. The range extends through Blanc de Blancs, rosé, Premier Cru and Grand Cru bottlings, each positioned for connoisseurs seeking Champagne that expresses place.
Since its founding nearly 60 years ago, Champagne De Saint-Gall has walked a careful line: perpetuating the great traditions of Champagne winemaking whilst embracing sophisticated methods that allow the region’s finest grapes to shine. In bringing together integrated viticulture, a meticulous approach to each plot and advanced winemaking, the House has quietly reinvented what collective winemaking can achieve.
