Most supermarket buyers are justly proud of their own-label Champagne and the Sainsbury’s team has every right to be chuffed with this blanc de noirs, an equal blend of Pinot Noir and Meunier that’s apparently one of the longest continuous listings for the retailer. The nose offers russet apple and toasted sourdough, while in the mouth there’s bags of juicy orchard fruit balanced by zingy citrus and enhanced by salted caramel and tarte tatin. Delicious on its own, or with a bowl of cashews.
