Frustrated at the price of Burgundy these days? Well, head for the hills because the Haut-Côtes de Beaune (‘high slopes’), between 300-500 metres above the famous Côte de Beaune, offers a decent-value alternative to its pricey neighbour. The cooler conditions mean the wines have a lighter, more delicate framework but there’s still plenty of concentration here to complement the freshness, with succulent stone fruit and a satisfying streak of refreshing wet stone making it a great pairing for pan-fried sea bream in a caper burnt butter sauce.
