Established in the Barossa Valley in 1849, Yalumba is Australia’s oldest family-owned winery with a reputation for producing high-quality blends of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz – traditionally known as ‘Australian Clarets’. The Vigil 2017 certainly delivers against this expectation; appealing aromas of ripe blueberry and blackberry are wrapped up in savoury notes of leather, toasty oak and clove. Generous and full bodied, this wine has rounded, silky tannins and a satisfying, sustained finish with moreish hints of peppery spice. Although undoubtedly a ‘big’ wine, there is a lightness of touch here that makes for a very drinkable take on the Barossa.
