Petrus, Pomerol 2019
RRP £6,175
After about 30 minutes in glass, the aromas reveal irresistible succulent ripe plum, sweet cherry and blackberry. A cooler Médoc-like graphite marks the amazingly long finish. While less evident in terms of the fruit-driven charm of 2019, the wine shows more architectural structure than the norm, according to director Olivier Berrouet, which will ensure long term cellaring. Supremely refined tannins remind me of the 2005, but Berrouet says this vintage shows more ripeness. Aged in 50% new oak.
