Bordeaux produces too much wine so there are bargains to be had, especially if you can take advantage of Tesco’s buying power. 2018 was a great vintage for the region and it was especially good in Saint-Émilion, so it makes sense to head there for this excellent example, which is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, for climate-change-friendly freshness. There’s a gorgeous nose of violets, cedar, berries and cherries, judicious use of oak (and some concrete) and bags of smooth red-fruited charm. A luxurious option for steak seared on the barbecue.
