A complex blend of vintage rums, bottled in 2016, comes from 2004, ’05 and ’06 and breaks with the élevage approach. The 2004 is from ex-bourbon; the 2005, ex-Madeira; and 2007, unusually for the distillery, was initially matured in virgin oak for six years then in refill for a further three. It is direct and slightly hot, with dried banana, varnish, oak, and a floral touch. More overt oak-driven elements (dried coconut, graphite, pine, spice) develop on the palate, alongside concentrated red and black fruits. Some tobacco creeps in at the end. An outlier
