The highest in strength, this spent three years in ex-bourbon casks and 11 in ex-Sherry and was bottled in 2021. It’s noticeably heavier and denser on the nose. There’s some hot oak, then blackberry, black banana and jungle vegetation, given lift by grapefruit and yuzu, then gingerbread with thick butter. By contrast, the palate is open and welcoming: a sweet start, with masses of slick fruits and treacle, then the sultry pot still comes in with red fruit, cocoa nibs, citrus, light clove and mace. With water, an almost phenolic effect is added to the deep, soft fruit before a bittersweet liquorice finish. Pillowy, but there’s muscle here.
