Bottled in 2020, this 14-year old is another ex-bourbon/ Madeira expression but with each element aged separately. There are extra-mature elements on the nose (waxed leather, tropical fruit, paraffin, envelope glue), alongside black cherry and ginger marmalade, all adding to the depth and complexity. With water, there’s some hibiscus tea, haskap berry and cigar box. The palate balances the thickness of the distillate and its wilder elements with cashew, stewed orange, mango jam and almost overripe fruit, which in turn is controlled by supple tannins. Power, balance and complexity – the complete package.
