A 12-year-old aged solely in ex-bourbon casks, this starts dry, with cinnamon and nutmeg, before the sweetness emerges, led by citrus peels, characteristic black fruits, then lactone and a camphor-like quality. There’s a brightness to the delivery and a tighter focus, tying the rum more to cask. It becomes fatter and more unctuous in the mouth. There’s cassia mixed with dark plum and cherry, and a hint of molasses adds a deeper layer into which the creamy oak glides. It shows its maturity at the end, where leathery, oily pot-still elements give resonance.
