This large plot bought by Jim Barry in 1977 (funded by the sale of most of his red wine stock) is on slate and ascends to just over 500m above sea level. The Rieslings here are restrained yet energetic like a horse at the starting gate (interestingly, Barry also set up a stud on this land). The incredible deep orange colour is apparently due to the use of ascorbic acid at this time. (Once they went to screwcap in 1999 they didn’t need it.)
