English wine buyer Matthew Horsley is an unlikely Del Boy but he landed a ‘cushty’ deal with this delicious Blanc de Blancs from top notch Sussex producer, Ridgeview, which became available after another, unnamed, retailer did a runner. ‘It was so good we took the lot, based on them ageing it for a further two years on the lees,’ he tells me. A plush nose of salted butter and tarte tatin leads into a delicious orchard fruit feast, balanced by lashings of vibrant English acidity, with elegant bubbles and a lingering crumble finish. A show-stopping summer party wine.
