Chardonnay was the grape that fared best in the challenging 2017 harvest, so it makes sense to showcase the variety in Tesco’s vintage Champagne, produced by its regular supplier, Union Champagne, with Grand Cru fruit from the Côte des Blancs. A silver medal winner at the IWSC in 2025, with 93 points, the nose offers green apple, white grapefruit and lemon zest, the mousse has delicate bubbles, while the palate has pithy citrus, gunflint and a gentle hint of smoke. This still feels youthful, so stock the cellar, if you have one, with a few bottles.
