Produced by Rolling Green Hills, a rather opaque private label producer with no public profile, this classic blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier, produced using the traditional method, lives up to its brand name, ‘The Best’. With a nose of hedgerow blossom, toasted cobnuts, russet apple and conference pear, it’s as English as a rainy day, though much more enjoyable, with the trademark bright acidity and plump orchard fruit enhanced by six years of ageing on the lees, which adds textural charm.
