The grapes for this Großes Gewächs Riesling are grown in Louis Guntrum’s ‘Roter Hang’ vineyards, which translates as ‘Red Hill’ – a reference to both the vineyard’s distinctive, iron-rich soils and its steep slopes onto the banks of the Rhine. With almost five years of bottle age, the Hipping Riesling displays enticing, layered aromas of candied lemon peel, beeswax and honey. This complexity continues on the palate, where notes of baked green apple combine with subtle hints of lanolin and pithy lemon. The red soils of Roter Hang bring a poised and elegant minerality to the finish of this finely crafted Riesling. Drinking well now, this wine has the capacity to age for many years to come.
