A mild spring followed by a hot summer; harvest was delayed by 100mm of rainfall in February. Still, this a gorgeous wine, full of personality, perfumed with orange flowers yet delicately bitter, like the Seville oranges which are used to make marmalade. Forceful New World Riesling can feel like hanging out at a petrol pump; this has just enough of those oily kerosene flavours to keep things interesting but not enough to overwhelm. The magnum helps of course, but this is delicious.
