The grapes for this ‘Gran Añada’ Albariño are selected from Bodegas La Val’s very best vineyard sites, which track the route of the Miño river from the granitic sub-zone of Condado do Tea right through to O Rosal by the Atlantic Ocean. A period of gentle aging in French oak brings beguiling complexity to the wine – the nose is redolent of quince, honey and baked peaches, with a subtle hint of sweet spice. The concentrated, fleshy palate is balanced by a crisp salinity that speaks of the coastal Vilachán vineyard. With a long and moreish finish, this wine is proof that high-calibre Albariño can indeed age beautifully.
