Bodegas La Val has recently acquired new vineyard holdings in the O Rosal sub-region of Rías Baixas, which has given winemaker José Maria Ureta a broader palette of terroirs to work with and has precipitated a step-change in quality. The 2023 Albariño is a blend from four specific vineyard sites and its enticing aromas of ripe, fuzzy apricots and fresh lemon peel are absolutely typical for this wine style. These juicy, white stone fruit notes are elevated by a brisk, moreish salinity – the calling card of a new, schist vineyard in Vilachán – that will pair brilliantly with grilled prawns or other fresh seafood.
