St Emilion Grand Cru

Chateau Rocheyron, St Emilion Grand Cru, 2014

RRP £83

Altogether a more masculine wine (Sisseck apologises for using such an expression, but it’s a useful way of describing a certain “toughness of tannins” as he puts it). Fine coffee-bean nose, clean and fresh; the tannins develop in the mouth and dominate the mid-palate. Robust as they are they don’t compromise the freshness and as they subside they’re replaced with rich and ripe fruit. Overall quite closed and shy in the mid-palate; there’s a nice sour dry finish with a wash of juice at the end.
