Tiberio, Archivio Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2017 (Montepulciano)
Montepulciano can be more than a cheap quaffer, and Tiberio’s new Archivio wine demonstrates this. The estate’s entry-level Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is stellar, but the Archivio is a notch above, made from the estate’s 60- to 80-year-old vines (hence the name). The first-ever Tiberio wine aged in oak (30% new) is powerful yet refined, noble and suave, and a shining example of what a misunderstood grape variety can deliver in the right hands.
