2013 is considered one of the finest Napa vintages of the century (“Legendary”, winemaker Rebekah Wineburg says). A warm spring was followed by a summer of even temperatures and a cool October, perfect for the grapes to reach perfect ripeness while retaining acidity. What more could a winemaker ask for? The nose is deep and interestingly savoury (not animal) followed by a gorgeous fresh, open, dark fruit palate with lots of bright juice and a fine sweet end. Wineburg says she loves “the dance between the Carmenere and the Cabernet Franc, and the diversity it brings to the glass”. The tannins are sweet and approachable, the fruit earthy and warm. What a generous, poised, beautifully made, unpretentious, simply delightful wine.
