Harvest was finished before the Glass Fire began in late September. Shy on the nose: though it opens in the glass, it gives little away beyond a fine slaty sensation. The tannin comes through early on the palate, open-textured, slightly chalky. Then the wine becomes tense and deep, perfumed with that characteristic sagebrush and damp earth, the tannins becoming finer. It’s in a minor key, every component waiting to show itself. The fresh, brisk acidity gives balance and tension. Bill Harlan offers one of his rare comments: “This will take time and will stand out as time goes on.
