After three years of minimal rainfall, 2015 was hot and yields were low: a challenging vintage. The team started using the big Austrian casks in 2012 and 2015 was the first vintage to be raised 100% in Austrian oak. Powerful aromas of tar and leather. There’s juice throughout, wet stone and damp earth, and red fruit; the tannins don’t have the brightness they show on the 2013, for example: they are present but lacking in energy, and rather tight at the end. A new pour has more lifted aromatics – the wine has evolved fast in the glass.
