Red wine
Gaja, Barbaresco 2014
RRP £200
Quite restrained on the nose, with notes of sweet cherries, cured meat, dry roses, fresh strawberries and ink. The palate is powerful, with high acidity, ripe and well-integrated tannins, generous alcohol and a long finish. There’s a slight lack of complexity and depth here compared to the other wines – a reflection of the difficulties of the vintage – but it’s still delicious.
