Red wine
Domaine Jean-Louis Chave, Hermitage Rouge 2016
RRP £251
Very little Chave Hermitage was made in 2016 due to unprecedented hail, but the quality is very high. Remarkably open and ready already for a Chave Hermitage, showing cigar box and bonfire smoke among the blackberry fruit – perfect fruit ripeness. It’s aromatically bright and fresh, elegant and lifted. It has a ripe, juicy acidity running through it, giving the wine line, length and a sense of focus. A remarkably elegant, almost Burgundian style of Hermitage. You could open it now, but try to wait until 2030 if you can, when it will have taken on much more complexity.
