Kratošija is another regional name for Zinfandel, Primitivo and Tribidrag (and more!) – apparently all sharing the same DNA profile. No matter the name, this is a Balkan grape. In fact. Kratošija is even a parent of Vranec.
The Brzanov Artisan Winery has matured this one, from 37-year-old vines, in Serbian oak for 16 months after lengthy maceration and several months on the lees. Characteristic red fruit tones of raspberry and cherry come through, along with juiciness and fresh acidity. Ripe, delicious and with a firm structure. The tannins are lengthy, though a bit stressed from the long barrel age.
