Etienne La Garenne

Domaine Etienne Sauzet, Puligny-Montrachet, 1er Cru La Garenne 2017

RRP £109

This is a well-known Puligny domaine with some enviable parcels, although not all its wine is domaine-derived. This shows a pink aroma with candy floss – an almost synthetic note that disappeared after 24 hours. The palate is gently rounded, light and frothy but also somewhat soft and exotic. Pleasant, but for the moment not expressing Garenne’s edge. It did sharpen up, though, and over a couple of days showed much more minerality and definition, which bodes well for keeping.
