This is an 18-year-old that has been aged in ex-bourbon casks, something that Seale says would have been considered madness in the past. Balancing distillate with cask activity works well, producing a complex result. Though none is involved, the fruits have taken on a savoury, Port-like quality, while on the back there is some (pot-still-derived?) ‘smoke’. This is a quieter, sensual expression that, on the palate, has black pepper, guava, baked plantain, pink grapefruit and that tobacco element.
