Another 12-year-old, this too has been aged in ex-bourbon. Here, the tobacco note, which plays a supporting role in many bottlings, comes to the fore. That, plus dry grass and some old paper, adds to a drying tone, on top of which comes blackcurrant, guava, pineapple, mango and gingerbread. There’s an intensity and maturity here. Robust pot-still elements give power to the palate, with lush fruits (plum skin, mulberry) balanced by the tension imbued by oak and acidity. A green note re-emerges before funked-up molasses decay creeps in. Structured and complex, savoury and sweet.
