Federico Curtaz, Etna Bianco Superiore 2021

Tasted by
Cristina Mercuri

From Aosta to Etna, Federico Curtaz is an expert in white winemaking, producing wines with tension and elegance. Vineyards are in the eastern ‘versante’ (slope) of Etna, close to Milo. The careful use of oak, with large cask ageing, enhances the texture and gives a delicate smoky complexity to a wine that is still showing quiet restraint and a nervous energy. The nose is floral with orange blossom and the scent of Italy’s native ginestra flower, with aromas of melon and an incredible purity. Its linear palate is defined, graced by a refreshing acidity. It would be best to hold this in the cellar for another couple of years, but it will age beautifully for at least 10 years before reaching its peak.
